Vroni
on Boogie came into existence in 1999, when I bought a (dodgy
old) van for £500 and a piano from a charity shop for £50.
With beginner's hick ups (like only getting the piano in and out
of the van by tilting it, which makes loading just that bit more
tricky) I took this piano to the Royal Mile and the Meadows during
the Festival. I had to cycle back to the piano once I had parked
the van and then started playing ragtime and stride all afternoon.
It was fun and people liked it, so I decided to do it again the
next year. And the next year. And the one after. Then I got pregnant
and still found myself playing piano in the meadows. The next
year I played with my wee daughter on my lap (of course not all
the time - she has a busy baby life!)
In 2004 I surprised the
Highlanders and the Englanders with a tour of the UK. And for
the summer of 2005? Baby Sophie turned into an active toddler
and was to be seen dancing around the piano. We stayed in the
Lothians and played the meadows yet again...
